
Anita Rachvelishvili, Sonya Yoncheva, Ermonela Jaho, Dimitri Platanias & Brian Jagde Lead Greek National Opera’s 2026-27 Season

Dimitra Galani, Savina Yannatou, and Yannis Palamidas lead the music theatre tribute “Even If You Go Away…: Tribute to Marianina Kriezi”, conceived and curated by Galani with supervising direction by Katerina Petsatodi. The GNO Children’s Chorus participates.
Performance Dates: Oct. 1 – 7, 2026
The GNO travels to Carnegie Hall for “Nikos Kazantzakis: An Odyssey in Music,” featuring works by Hadjidakis, Skalkottas, Mitropoulos, Koumendakis, and Theodorakis. Vassilis Christopoulos conducts, with mezzo-soprano Anita Rachvelishvili and soprano Maria Kostraki as soloists.
Performance Date: Oct. 15, 2026
Christos Kechris, Petros Magoulas, Mary-Ellen Nesi, and Maria Kostraki lead Monteverdi’s “L’Orfeo” in a new co-production with the Glyndebourne Festival Opera and the Metropolitan Opera, directed by William Kentridge and conducted by Konstantinos Terzakis.
Performance Dates: Oct. 30 – Nov. 14, 2026
Lena Platonos’ “The Emperor’s Nightingale” returns in revival, directed by Katerina Petsatodi, in this opera for young audiences based on the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale.
Performance Dates: Nov. 3 – Jan. 10, 2027
Dmitry Golovnin, Dionysios Sourbis, Tassis Christoyannis, and Matilde Wallevik lead Tchaikovsky’s “The Queen of Spades” in a new production directed by Stephen Langridge and conducted by Dmitri Jurowski.
Performance Dates: Dec. 6 – Jan. 5, 2027
Sonya Yoncheva, Charles Castronovo, Arturo Chacón-Cruz, Riccardo Massi, and Dimitri Platanias lead a revival of Puccini’s “Tosca” in Nikos S. Petropoulos’ production, conducted by Pier Giorgio Morandi.
Performance Dates: Jan. 24 – Feb. 11, 2027
Valentina Turcu’s “A Streetcar Named Desire” receives its new production premiere, a co-production with the Maribor Slovene National Theatre based on the Tennessee Williams play, featuring the GNO Ballet.

Christos Kechris, Dimitri Platanias, Danae Kontora, and Anita Rachvelishvili lead Stravinsky’s “The Rake’s Progress” in a new production directed by Alexandros Efklidis and conducted by Jacques Lacombe.
Performance Dates: March 5 – 19, 2027
Brian Jagde, Tassis Christoyannis, and Cellia Costea lead a revival of Verdi’s “Otello” in Robert Wilson’s staging, a co-production with the Baden-Baden Easter Festival, conducted by Vassilis Christopoulos.
Performance Dates: April 8 – May 9, 2027
Vassiliki Karayanni, Anna Agathonos, Yannis Christopoulos, and Tassos Apostolou lead Beethoven’s “Missa Solemnis” in a new staged production marking the composer’s 200th anniversary of death, featuring the GNO Orchestra, Chorus, and Ballet.
Performance Dates: May 23 – June 2, 2027
Ermonela Jaho, Marcelo Puente, Anita Rachvelishvili, and Tassis Christoyannis lead a revival of Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly” in Hugo de Ana’s production, conducted by Sesto Quatrini.
Performance Dates: June 25 – July 18, 2027
Dimitri Platanias and Dionysios Sourbis lead a revival of Verdi’s “Rigoletto” in Nikos S. Petropoulos’ production, conducted by Lukas Karytinos.
Performance Dates: July 17 – 30, 2027
