By Francisco Salazar

This week a soprano celebrates a major anniversary while two acclaimed productions are released on DVD. Here is a look at what we recommend.

Plaisir d’Amour

Angela Gheorghiu will release her latest CD to celebrate the 25th anniversary of her first recording. In a statement, the soprano said, “Celebrating 25 years since my debut recording with Decca Classics, my very first record label, I am thrilled to present my new recital album – Plaisir d’amour – to be released on November 15th! Accompanied on the piano by a very promising young pianist, Alexandra Dariescu, I hope you will love our journey.”

The new album is a set of art songs by Faure, Debussy, R. Strauss, Tosti, Bellini, Villa-Lobos, and Rachmaniov, among others.

From Darkness Into Light

The early music female vocal ensemble Musica Secreta releases “From Darkness Into Light,” with Obsidian. The recording features Antoine Brumel’s “Lamentations of Jeremiah for Good Friday,” as well as other rare gems of renaissance convent music from a Florentine manuscript by the same copyist.

Tristan und Isolde

Wagner’s masterpiece gets a new release from Rome’s Teatro dell’Opera presented in acclaimed production by Pierre Audi’s.

C Major releases the DVD, which stars Andreas Schager and Rachel Nicholls in the title roles. The cast is rounded by Michelle Breedt, Brett Polegato, and John Relyea. Daniele Gatti conducts.
