Angela Gheorghiu Honored at Women in Economy

Angela Gheorghiu has been recognized with the Excellence Award from CONAF Romania and the Women in Economy. 

The soprano took to social media to announce the news and said, “A heartfelt ‘Thank you’ to my dearest friend, Emil Hurezeanu, for the laudatio. It was great to meet again some familiar faces.”

Gheorghiu, who is considered one of the great sopranos of her generation, has performed at every major theater in the world, including the Metropolitan Opera, Bayerische Staatsoper, Wiener Staatsoper, Teatro alla Scala, and Paris Opera. She has been honored with “La Medaille Vermeille de la Ville de Paris” and appointed an “Officier de l’Ordre des Arts et Lettres” and “Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et Lettres” by the French Ministry of Culture.

She also received the honorific title of “Doctor Honoris Causa” by the University of Arts in Iași (Romania) and the “Star of Romania”, the highest decoration given by the President of Romania. She also received the European Cultural Award for Music and a Doctor Honoris Causa title from the University of Bucharest.

She next performs at the Sheldonian Theatre in Oxford.
