Angela Brown, Stephen Salters to Headline New Canon Chamber Collective’s ‘American Soul’ Concert

The New Canon Chamber Collective is set to present “American Soul” on Dec. 3 and 4, 2022.

The concerts will be conducted by Marlon Daniel and will feature such artists as soprano Angela Brown and baritone Stephen Salters as they take on music by William Grant Still, Florence Price, and George Gershwin.

Brown has performed with such organizations as the Metropolitan Opera, Opera Philadelphia, Michigan Opera Theater, and Cincinnati Opera, among many others. Meanwhile, Salters, the first prize winner of the Licia Albanese-Puccini International Vocal Competition and Walter W. Naumburg Vocal Competition, has performed with such companies as the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Tanglewood, the Opéra National de Paris, the Houston Symphony, and the Opera Theater of Saint Louis, among others.

The Dec. 3 showcase will take place at the Broward Performing Arts Center with the ensuing performance on the 4th scheduled for the Sanctuary of the Arts in Coral Gables in Miami.

The New Canon Chamber Collective was founded in 2021 by Portia Dunkley with the aim of spotlighting Black and Brown composers and performers.
