Ángel Ódena Replaces Carlos Álvarez in Teatro de la Zarzuela’s ‘Entre Sevilla y Triana’

The Teatro de la Zarzuela has announced that baritone Carlos Álvarez will not be appearing in the role of Fernando in Pablo Sorozábal, Luis Fernández Sevilla, and Luis Tejedor Pérez’s “Entre Sevilla y Triana” for performances on Jan. 26, 28, 30, and Feb. 2, 4 and 6, 2022.

As a result, Ángel Ódena will take over the role, alternating with Javier Franco. Ódena joins a cast that includes Carmen Solís, Andeka Gorrotxategi, Ángel Ruiz, Anna Gomà, Jesús Méndez, Gurutze Beitia, José Luis Martínez, Manuel de Andrés, Rocío Galán, David Sigüenza, Lara Chaves, Adrián López, and Resu Morales. Guillermo García Calvo conducts a production by Curro Carreres.

Ángel Ódena is a well-known baritone who has appeared at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, Teatro Real, Teatro di San Carlo, Palau de Les Arts, Ópera de Oviedo, Finnish National Opera, Teatro Villamarta, and Teatro de la Maestranza, among others.

Álvarez is slated to go back to the stage in the title role in Verdi’s “Rigoletto” at the Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège in March 2022.
