Angel Blue to Star in Metropolitan Opera’s ‘Aida’

Peter Gelb has confirmed that Angel Blue will sing Aida at the Metropolitan Opera.

Gelb told the Intelligencer that he is excited about Blue’s new roles and said “Now I’m pushing her forward in all these major roles.” He added, “Blue will sing the role of Aida in a new production.”

Regarding the new production, which was set to open during the 2020-21 season but canceled due to the pandemic, he said, “That’s a big deal. It will be somewhat controversial when we put on a new production because it’s a very opulent production that old-time opera fans love. I’ve learned my lessons about operatic opulence when it comes to the classics.”

He added that he is also looking forward to seeing Ryan Speedo Green’s upcoming roles and said that he will be a major Met star.

Blue recently opened the Met’s season in “Fire Shut Up in my Bones” and is currently starring in the company’s “Porgy and Bess.” This season she is set to star in Paris Opera’s “Faust” and Bayerische Staastoper’s “La Bohème.”
