Angel Blue & Stephanie Blythe Lead San Diego Opera’s 2020-21 Season

The San Diego Opera has announced the 2020-21 season featuring six productions.

Main Stage

The season opens with Keturah Stickann’s production of Puccini’s “La Bohème.” Angel Joy Blue stars in the title role with Joshua Guerrero as Rodolfo, Andrea Carroll as Musetta, Alexander Birch Elliot as Marcello, and Scott Sikon as Beniôt/Alcindoro. Valerio Galli conducts.

Performance Dates: Oct. 24-Nov. 1, 2020

Yves Abel conducts Puccini’s “Suor Angelica” and “Gianni Schicchi” in a production by Paul Curran. The production stars Stephanie Blythe as her signature Principessa and in a historic turn as Gianni Schicchi. Remaining cast members include Marina Costa-Jackson as Suor Angelica/Lauretta, Carolyn Sproule as La Ciesca, and Piotr Buszewski as Rinuccio.

Performance Dates: Feb. 13-21, 2021

David Pershall, Emily Fons, and Patrick Carfizzi star in Rossini’s “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” with Bruce Stasyna and Jimmy Featherstone Marcheso sharing the pit.

Performance Dates: April 24-May 1, 2021

Detour Series 

San Diego Opera will present the annual One Amazing Night featuring some of opera’s biggest contemporary stars.

Performance Dates: Nov. 18, 2020

In the time for the holiday season, the company will present an a capella choral opera, “All Is Calm.”

Performance Dates: Dec. 4-6, 2020

“The Aging Magician” by Paola Prestini will be performed with the Attacca Quartet. Rinde Eckhert stars alongside the Brooklyn Youth Chorus with Julian Crouch directing and Beth Morrison Projects working as creative producers.

Performance Dates: March 26 & 27, 2020
