Baltimore Symphony Orchestra is set to present “Aida” this June.

The Verdi opera will sar Angel Blue in the title role alongside Jamie Barton as Amneris, Limmie Pulliam as Radamès, Reginald Smith, Jr. as Amonasro, and Mark S. Doss as Ramfis. Baltimore Symphony Orchestra Music Director Johnathan Heyward conducts the performances.

“’Aida’ offers everything that makes a story great; love, loyalty, conflict, and sacrifice,” said Heyward per an official press release. “Verdi’s music elevates these human emotions to extraordinary heights. And with a concert presentation, we invite audiences to experience the power of this score more intimately than ever by placing the Orchestra at the center of the drama.”

First up comes an 8 p.m. performance on June 13 at Meyerhoff with a Strathmore showcase set for June 15 at 3 p.m.

The presentation of Verdi’s famed masterwork falls under the auspices of Heyward’s “Verdi Opera Initiative,” which is a direct response to the community’s interest in more operatic offerings in Maryland. Heyward is set to continue the initiative next season with “Rigoletto.”
