On Oct. 31, the Gershwins’ “Porgy and Bess” is set to return to the Metropolitan Opera.

The production will return after its history-making run during the 2019-20 season which OperaWire called, “smart casting and a solid conception of a classic work.”

Eric Owens and Angel Blue reprise the title couple with conductor David Robertson returning to the podium.

The production will also see Latonia Moore return to her show-stopping interpretation of Serena and Ryan Speedo Green take on the role of Jake.

Other cast members will include Janai Brugger and Jacqueline Echols as Clara, Frederick Ballentine as drug dealer Sportin’ Life, Alfred Walker as the brutal Crown, and Denyce Graves as Maria, the matriarch of Catfish Row. Elizabeth Llewellyn will also sing the role of Bess on Nov. 18, and J. David Jackson will conduct the Dec. 1 and 4 performances.

“Porgy and Bess” will be performed 13 times from Oct. 31 to Dec. 12, 2021 with the Nov. 3, 18, and 24 performances broadcast live on Met Opera Radio on SiriusXM.
