Andriy Yurkevych Named New Music Director of State Opera in Prague

Andriy Yurkevych has been named the new music director of the State Opera in Prague. He will begin his new position immediately, taking over for Karl-Heinz-Steffens.

His first performances in the new position will be of a production of Verdi’s “La Traviata,” which opens on Sept. 3. He will follow that up with a performance of “Tosca” on Sept. 4, 2022. “La Traviata” is set to run through Nov. 12, 2022, while “Tosca” will take the stage through Dec. 1, 2022. He is also set to take on productions of “Aida,” “La Bohème,” “Roméo et Juliette,” “Madama Butterfly,” “Cavalleria Rusticana” and “Pagliacci” with the State Opera this season.

Yurkevych is also the resident music director of the Opera National Krushelnytska in Lviv. He has conducted with such organizations as the Festival della Valle d’Itria, the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Wiener Staatsoper, the Gran Teatre del Liceu, the Greek National Opera, the Staatsoper Berlin, the Bayerische Staatoper, La Monnaie, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, and the Teatro Real de Madrid, among many others.
