Deutsche Oper Berlin has announced that bass Andrew Harris will take over the role of Hunding in the upcoming performances of Wagner’s “Die Walküre,” replacing Tobias Kehrer.

Harris has performed the roles of Don Basilio in Rossini’s “Il Barbiere di Siviglia,” Sparafucile in Verdi’s “Rigoletto,” Masetto in Mozart’s “Don Giovanni,” and Stefano Colonna in Wagner’s “Rienzi, der letzte der Tribunen” at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, among others.

The bass is slated to appear in the role of Fafner at the Staatstheater Kassel in Wagner’s “Das Rheingold” and “Siegfried” in May and June 2021.

Harris will join a cast that includes Brandon Jovanovich in the role of Siegmund, Nina Stemme as Brünnhilde, Lise Davidsen as Sieglinde, John Lundgren in the role of Wotan, and Annika Schlicht as Fricka. The cast will also include Flurina Stucki, Aile Asszonyi, Antonia Ahyoung Kim, Irene Roberts, Ulrike Helzel, Karis Tucker, Nicole Piccolomini, Beth Taylor, and Eric Naumann.

Donald C. Runnicles, the General Music Director of the Deutsche Oper, will conduct the production by Stefan Herheim.

The opening night of “Die Walküre” is scheduled for Sep. 27, 2020. The opera is set to run until Oct. 11, 2020.
