Andrés Salado Steps Down from the Orquesta de Extremadura
By Francisco SalazarAndrés Salado, Artistic and Principal Conductor of the Orquesta de Extremadura in Spain, has stepped down from his position at the helm of the orchestra.
In a statement, a letter addressed to the Board of Trustees of the Fundación de la Orquesta de Extremadura, the conductor said, his “non-continuation in the post of Principal Conductor and Artistic Director of the OEX is due exclusively to the lack of institutional support, and that it is not correct to note any other reason in this respect. Even though the minimally necessary and ideal conditions to continue leading the project that occupies me in the OEX have not been procured, I continued to make an effort in this fourth season. My will, before the disappearance of this institutional support which I always enjoyed, was always to continue with the tenure and a musical project in which I believe from a professional and personal perspective and to which I have contributed unquestionable artistic, social and human results, in accordance with the foundational aims of the institution.”
The conductor added that the situation between the “new manager and the principal and artistic director” is unstable and unsustainable.
Salado has conducted such orchestras as the Orquesta Nacional de España, Orquesta Sinfónica de RTVE, Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona, and Real Filharmonía de Galicia. He joined the Orquesta de Extremadura during the 2021-22 season.
