Andreas Schager, Scott Hendricks, Elena Guseva, Maria Barakova & Annalisa Stroppa Lead Bregenz Festival 2022 Season

The Bregenz Festival has announced its 2022 slate, featuring four operas and international stars.

Here is the full slate.

Operas

Rossini’s “L’Italiana in Algeri” stars Maria Barakova as Isabella, Alberto Comes as Mustafa, Sarah Yang as Elvira, and Spencer Britten as Lindoro. The cast also includes Florence Losseau, Hubert Kowalczyk, and Pierpaolo Martella. Jonathan Brandani conducts a production by Brigitte Fassbaender.

Performance dates: July 8 – 20, 2022

Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly” stars Celine Byrne, Elena Guseva, and Barno Ismatullaeva as Cio-Cio-San; Edgaras Montvidas, Jonathan Tetelman, and Łukasz Załęski as Pinkerton; Claudia Huckle, Aytaj Shikhalizada, and Annalisa Stroppa in the role of Suzuki; and Brian Mulligan, Brett Polegato, and Yngve Søberg in the role of Sharpless. The cast is rounded out by Hamida Kristoffersen, Sabine Winter, Michael Laurenz, Taylan Reinhard, Omer Kobiljak, Patrik Reiter, Levente Páll, Stanislav Vorobyov, and Unnsteinn Árnason. Enrique Mazzola and Yi-Chen Lin conduct a production by Andreas Homoki.

Performance dates: July 20 – Aug. 21, 2022

Next up is Vasily Barkhatov’s production of Giordano’s “Siberia.” The opera showcases Ambur Braid, Fredrika Brillembourg, Cheryl Studer, Alexander Mikhailov, Scott Hendricks, Omer Kobiljak, Manuel Günther, Michael Mrosek, Unnsteinn Árnason, and Stanislav Vorobyov. Valentin Uryupin conducts.

Performance dates: July 21 – Aug. 1, 2022

Finally, Haydn’s “Armida” will feature Kieran Carrel, Hyunduk Kim, Gabriel Rollinson, Kathrin Hottiger, Dafydd Jones, and Nicole Wacker in the title role. Jonathan Brandani conducts a production by Jörg Lichtenstein.

Performance dates: Aug. 15 – 19, 2022

Concert

Andreas Schager, Greer Grimsley, Ricarda Merbeth, and Nadine Weissmann perform Act three of Wagner’s “Siegfried” with Karina Canellakis conducting.

Performance date: July 31, 2022

The festival begins on July 8, and runs through Aug. 21, 2022.
