Ana María Martínez Headlines Lyric Opera Of Chicago’s ‘Madama Butterfly’

The Lyric Opera of Chicago is set to revive Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly” marking the 16th time the Lyric has presented the work.

Ana María Martínez will bring her signature Cio-Cio San to the company for the first time opposite Brian Jagde. The production will also star Lianna Haroutounian who will make her Lyric debut and Brandon Jovanovich portraying Butterfly and Pinkerton in two performances.

Rounding out the cast Deborah Nansteel will portray Suzuki while Anthony Clark Evans will sing Sharpless, and Rodell Rosel will star as the marriage broker Goro.

Hungarian conductor Henrik Nánási will return to the Lyric Opera after making his American debut with the company conducting “The Marriage of Figaro.” The acclaimed production by Michael Grandage will be directed by Louisa Muller for its revival.

Performances open on Feb. 6 and run through March 8, 2020.
