The Houston Grand Opera and its Artistic and Music Director Patrick Summers have announced that Ana María Martinez will join the artistic team as the first-ever artistic advisor.

Martinez will begin her new post this season and it will be a three-year appointment. In her new position, the soprano will advise on casting and future productions, mentor the HGO Studio artists, adjudicate the Concert of Arias competition, and work with HGO to develop programming that connects to Houston’s various communities.

Martinez is currently performing “Florencia en el Amazonas” at the Houston Grand Opera and has been a mainstay with the company for the past 25 years since she won the company’s first-place competition.

Martinez next performs “El Gato Montés” at the LA Opera with Plácido Domingo and Arturo Chacón-Cruz.
