The Canadian Opera Company is set to showcase Verdi’s “La Traviata” starting on April 23, 2022.

The production will feature Amina Edris, Matthew Polenzani, Simone Piazzola, Jamie Groote, Jonah Spungin, Gregory Dahl, Midori Marsh, and Vartan Gabrielian.

The creative team will include conductor Johannes Debus, director Arin Arbus, set designer Riccardo Hernández, puppet and costume designer Cait O’Connor, lighting designer Marcus Doshi, associate choreographer Laura Careless, Price family Chorus Master Sandra Horst, with the COC Orchestra and Choir.

The COC’s award-winning costumes and puppetry will be combined with dramatic lighting and sets to create exuberant and glamorous experiences and emotions for the audience, adding visual impact with swirling ball gown dance scenes.

“It is a deeply drawn psychological portrait of a woman struggling to survive in a wealthy and stratified patriarchy. And that, unfortunately, is still an important story, which shocks as ‘La Traviata’ did when it premiered in its time,” said director Arin Arbus.

There will be seven performances in total through May 20, 2022.
