Americas Society To Host Winners of Alejandro Cordero Competition From Teatro Colón

By David Salazar

The Americas Society has announced that it will present “A Night At the Opera: Instituto Superior de Arte Teatro Colón” on Oct. 21, 2019 in New York City.

The event will feature a wide range of unique young artists, all of them winners of the Alejandro Cordero Competition from the Instituto Superior del Teatro Colón, the training division of the famed theater. The artists include mezzo-soprano Estefania Cap, soprano Romina Jofré, soprano Ivana Ledesma, soprano Marina Torres, and tenor Christian Taleb.

This is the 12th straight year that The Americas Society hosts this event. This group of artists will also be performing a concert at the Manhattan School of Music on Oct. 16 as well as one on the 18th at the Argentine Consulate.

Cordero is a member of the Teatro Colón Foundation and started the competition when he first learned that a singing competition at the Teatro Colón was in danger of being fully suspended. He thus offered to help support the contest and went on to organize his one bearing his name.
