American Lyric Theater Unveils InsightALT Festival 2020

American Lyric Theater will shine a spotlight on new opera via the InsightALT Festival on Feb. 22-23, 2020 at The Ailey Citigroup Theater in New York City.

The festival will present three new operas in development under the Composer Librettist Development Program.

The first of these works is “Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Fallen Giant,” a comic mystery created by Evan Meier and E.M. Lewis. It will be presented on Feb. 22 and stars Daniel Curran, Mary-Hollis Hundley, Heather Johnson, Steven Condy, and Andrew W. Potter, among others. Andrew Bisantz conducts.

The second of these works will be “The Opposable Thumb,” written by Julian Crouch and with music by Liliya Ugay. It will be presented on Feb. 23 with Caroline Worra, Andrew Bidlack, Gideon Dabi, Jordan Rutter, Scott Conner, Sydney Anderson, Vera Savage and Cierra Byrd leading the cast. Emily Senturia conducts.

The third selection will be “The Halloween Tree,” which is based on Ray Bradbury’s famed novel. The opera is written by composer Theo Popov and librettist Tony Asaro. Also performed on the 23rd, it will star  Matt Boehler. Geoffrey McDonald conducts.
