Ambrogio Maestri to Appear at Mariinsky Theatre
By Francisco SalazarAmbrogio Maestri is set to take the Mariinsky Theatre stage during the Stars of the White Nights Festival.
The festival, which is held May 22 through August 3, is known as a grand celebration that used to draw the attention of audiences from around the world, as well as international singers.
Maestri will perform in a production of “Don Pasquale” as well as “Adriana Lecouvreur,” two operas he has sung to universal acclaim around the world.
This year, the company has already seen Ferruccio Furlanetto make two appearances. Maestri’s appearance at the Mariinsky Theatre is the latest international artist to normalize relations with a Putin-backed theater.
Over the past year, Ramon Vargas, Vittorio Grigolo, Yusif Eyvazov, and Furlanetto have performed in Russia while still maintaining a healthy international career.
Russian artists Maria Barakova and Alexey Markov, who recently performed in the Metropolitan Opera’s “The Queen of Spades,” also made appearances during the Stars of the White Night Festival under conductor Valery Gergiev.
