Amanda Olea Headlines La Jolla Symphony & Chorus’ ‘This Soil’

La Jolla Symphony & Chorus is set to kick off its 2023-24 season with “This Soil” on Nov. 4 and 5, 2023.

The showcase will feature soprano Amanda Olea who will perform Barber’s “Knoxville: Summer of 1915.” The concert also includes a piano concerto by Florence Price, “Moxie” by Kristen Kuster, “Bravado” by Gala Flagello, Symphonic Dances from “West Side Story” by Leonard Bernstein,  and “Escaramuza” by Gabriela Lena Frank.

Music Director and Chorus conductor Arian Khaefi conducts.

“Whether a piece has been around for a couple hundred years, or if it was just written yesterday, LJS&C musicians play it with joy and enthusiasm,” said Sameer Patel, the organization’s recently appointed Music Director and Orchestra Conductor, in an official press statement.
