Amanda Forsythe, Lenneke Ruiten, Calixto Bieito Headline Les Talens Lyriques’ 2020-21 Season

Les Talens Lyriques has announced its 2020-21 season, which will include performances across Europe in London, Vienna, Paris, Würzburg, Dortmund, Heidelberg, Linz, Innsbruck, Ferrara, Bologna, Genoa, Bilbao, Brussels, Liège, Caen, Rouen, and Qatar.

For the intents of this article, we will focus on opera and vocal performances.

The season kicks off performances of Purcell’s “Orpheus Britannicus,” Suite no. 2, and Suite no. 7. Among the performers in this showcase are Grace Durham, Ann Hallenberg, Joshua Cheatham, Atsushi Sakaï, Laura Mónica Pustilnik, and Karl Nyhlin.

Performance Dates: August 20 (Innsbruck); Sept. 29 (Paris); Oct. 1 (Dortmund)

Soprano Siobhan Stagg will lead a performance of music by Lully, Montéclair, Handel, and Scarlatti.

Performance Date: Dec. 10, 2020 (Rouen)

The organization will present Collasse’s “La Naissance de Vénus” alongside the ballet of “La Naissance de Vénus” by Lully. The performance will feature Deborah Cachet, Bénédicte Tauran, Ambroisine Bré, Guy Cutting, Philippe Estèphe, Guillaume Andrieux, and the Choer de Chambre de Namur.

Lenneke Ruiten, Teresa Iervolino Florie Valiquette, and Ashley Riches star in Salieri’s “Armida.”

Soprano Sandrine Piau and countertenor Christopher Lowrey perform music by Pergolesi, Porpora, and Leo.

Performance Dates: March 22, 2021 (Genoa); March 23, 2021 (Bologna); March 28, 2021 (Heidelberg); April 3, 2021 (London)

Calixto Bieito will direct St. John’s Passion with a cast featuring Lenneke Ruiten, Carlos Mena, and Joshua Ellicott.

Performance Dates: May 10-13, 2021 (Paris)

Julien Prégardien, Judith van Wanroij, Maité Beaumont, Myrtò Papatanasiu, Nicholas Scott, and Matthieu Heim star in Mozart’s “Idomeneo.”

Performance Dates: June 11-12, 2021 (Würzburg)

Amanda Forsythe, Christopher Lowrey, Samuel Hasselhorn, and Jason Bridges star in Handel’s “Messiah.”

Performance Dates: June 26, 2021 (Evian-les-Bains)
