Alter Ego Chamber Opera to Present ‘Alcina Revamped’

Alter Ego Chamber Opera in Philadelphia, PA has announced a unique adaptation of Händel’s classic baroque opera “Alcina” set for the Philadelphia Fringe Festival. 

“Alcina Revamped,” which will be presented on September 24 and 26, 2021, is an English-language adaptation of the famed opera by librettist and soprano Alize Francheska Rozsnyai. Brenna Marley will star in the title role; Kaitlyn Tierney and Madison Marie McIntosh as Bradamante and Ruggiero, respectively; Al-Jabril Muhammad as Oronte; Andrew Egbuchiem as Oberto; Alize Francheksa as Morgana; and Matthew Masiano as Melissa. 

The new adaptation will feature Aaron Stewart on saxophone, Will Brobston on electric guitar; Emma Hey on viola, Irene Moretto on harpsichord, Michael Shingo-Crawford on violin,  and Ezgi Yargici on cello. The showcases will be conducted by composer and opera director Evan Kassof from ENA Ensemble. Madeline Whitesell directs. 

Alter Ego Chamber Opera is now entering its third season. Previous projects include the adaptation of Bach’s “Coffee Cantata” and the 2020 virtual production of “Mosiac of Modern Opera.”
