Franz Welser-Möst has canceled his participation in the Staatsoper under den Linden’s upcoming production of “Die Zauberflote.”

The company announced that the Cleveland music director was forced to pull out due to knee surgery. As a result, Alondra de la Parra will take over the run.

De la Parra is a rising star who is the music director of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra and is set to conduct the Spanish National Orchestra and Camerata Salzburg later this season. She also conducts the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Orquesta de València.

De La Parra conducts “Die Zauberflöte” in a new production by Yuval Sharon that stars Anna Prohaska, Julian Prégardien, Tuuli Takala and Kwangchul Youn.

The opera opens on Feb. 17 and runs through March 16, 2019.
