Alexia Voulgaridou Headlines Teatro Mayor’s ‘Madama Butterfly’

The Teatro Mayor in Bogota Colombia in co-production with the Ópera de Colombia has announced that it will present Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly” next month.

The production by renowned director Alejandro Chacón is set to star an international cast. Alexia Voulgaridou sings the title role of Cio-Cio-San with Colombian tenor César Gutiérrez as Pinkerton.

Baritone Marcelo Guzzo will portray Sharpless, while mezzo-soprano Asude Karayavuz will take the role of Suzuki. The remaining roles will be sung by an all-Colombian cast featuring Manuel Franco, Juan Camilo Acuña, Sergio Martínez, Monica Danilov and Juan David González. Rodolfo Fischer conducts the Fusion Juvenil of the Bogota Philharmonic.

“Madama Butterfly” is set to be performed three times from March 15 through the 17, 2019.
