Alexandra Nowakowski, Michael Kelly, Brian Mextorf Headline Brooklyn Art Song Society’s ‘Testaments’

On February 4, 2022 at 7:30 p.m., the Brooklyn Art Song Society (BASS) “Testaments” at the First Unitarian Church of Brooklyn.

The showcase, the fifth one in the company’s “Beginnings, Middles, and Ends” series, will feature the Songs and Proverbs of William Blake op. 74; 7 romances of Aleksander Blok op. 12; and the Testament of Michelangelo-Lieder. Performers will include soprano Alexandra Nowakowski and baritones Michael Kelly and Brian Mextorf. Pianists Mike Brofman and Renate Rohfling, violinist Stanichka Dimitrova, and cellist Sofía Novik will join the vocal artists.

The”Beginnings, Middles, and Ends” series aims to present work with which one meditates on mortality and what it means to live a life.

Throughout its 12-year history, BASS has premiered works by important living composers such as Katherine Balch, Doug and Brad Balliet, Lembit Beecher, Eve Beglarian, Harrison Birtwistle, Tom Cipullo, Michael Djupstrom, Daniel Felsenfeld, and many more.
