Alex Prior Leads a New Recording of ‘Salome’ with Ambur Braid

By Francisco Salazar

A new recording of “Salome” will be made by Alex Prior, conducting the Orquesta Sinfónica de Minería.

The recording will be made at the Estudios Churubusco in Mexico City. Parallel to the recording, there will be a documentary made that will follow the process of the recording from the sonoral conception to work with the singers and the orchestra.

The recording will feature Ambur Braid in the title role, Nicholas Brownlee as Jochanaan, Stefan Vinke as Herodes, and Lindsay Ammann as Herodías.

They will be joined by Bille Bruley, José Manuel Guinot Pascual, Frederick Ballentine, Kameron Lopreore, Sava Vemić, Cecilia Eguiarte, Josué Cerón, Mario Rojas, and Ricardo Ceballos.

The project is possible thanks to the contribution of David Lomelí.

In a statement, Alex Prior said, “Since I was four years old, my life has been inextricably linked to opera. I have spent most of my waking and sleeping hours reflecting on how to bring to life the greatest blessing that opera offers humanity: a way of understanding each other and ourselves at the deepest possible level. Making this recording with some of the finest singers working today and this phenomenal orchestra is an exciting opportunity to capture those years of obsessive contemplation in collaboration with the masterful artistry that this entire team brings to this project. Thank you to David Lomeli and Serge Dorny for conceiving this idea and helping us bring it to life.”
