Verona’s Teatro Filarmonico is set to celebrate the New Year with a gala performance of “La Bohème.”

The performance will star Aleksandra Kurzak and Roberto Alagna in a production by Stefano Trespidi. Andrea Battistoni will conduct the evening. While the company is currently performing the Puccini opera, Kurzak and Alagna will appear at the Verona company for one night only.

Kurzak recently performed in a production of “Tosca” and at the Metropolitan Opera and received rave reviews.

“Kurzak’s was a tempestuous Tosca whose emotional state was always in flux,” said OperaWire’s recent review of her “Tosca.”When we arrive at ‘Vissi d’Arte,’ she’s been worn down, outmatched, and realizes all may be lost. And that’s how Kurzak expresses the music.”

Meanwhile, Alagna performed in a new production of “Fedora” at the Teatro alla Scala and “Tosca” at the Metropolitan Opera. Of his turn in “Fedora,” OperaWire’s review noted,” Alagna developed his emotional weight in “Mia madre, la mia vecchia madre” showcasing his Loris’ torment. It was a virtuoso performance as Alagna narrated the betrayal of his wife with Vladimiro. And when Alagna finally revealed he was the murderer of Vladimiro, his tone grew in intensity and passion, the high tessitura blooming with power.”

The duo previously performed “La Bohème” in Puerto Rico.

“La Bohème” is set to be performed on Dec. 31 at 7:00 p.m.
