Aleksandra Kurzak, Atalla Ayan, Aleksandra Olczyk & Sebastian Catana Lead Polish National Opera’s 2024-25 Season

New Opera Productions
The first new production is Krzysztof Penderecki’s “The Black Mask” directed by David Pountney. Bassem Akiki conducts a cast that includes Jacek Laszczkowski, Natalia Rubiś, Katarzyna Drelich, Anna Lubańska, Szymon Rona, and Wojtek Gierlach.

Ill-starred love is also the theme of Łukasz Godyla’s “Wòlô bòskô.” The cycle of songs for baritone and piano will be directed by Jarosław Kilian.

Sebastian Catana, Rafał Siwek, Gabriela Legun, and Anthony Ciaramitaro star in Verdi’s “Simon Boccanegra” with Agnieszka Smoczyńska directing. Fabio Biondi conducts.

Richard Strauss’s “Ariadne on Naxos” will be directed by Mariusz Treliński and will be conducted by Lothar Koenigs. Robert Gierlach, Svetlina Stoyanova, Remigiusz Łukomski, Nadja Stefanoff, and Katarzyna Drelich headline the production.

Ludwik Grossman’s “Ghost of the Governor” will be conducted by Marta Kluczyńska and directed Cezary Tomaszewski.

Charles Gounod’s “Romeo and Juliet” will be performed in a concert version under Patrick Fournillier. Rafał Siwek stars.

Orff’s “Carmina Burana” will star Aleksandra Olczyk, Adam Kutny, and Jan Jakub Monowid. Martyna Szymczak conducts.
