The Pittsburgh Opera is set to present Bizet’s “Carmen.”

The production by Garnett Bruce is set to star Aleks Romano in the title role in her Pittsburgh debut and Scott Quinn as Don José. The cast is rounded out by Michael Todd Simpson as Escamillo and Danielle Pastin as Micaëla. Timothy Myers conducts the opera, which NPR stated “may have more hit tunes than any opera ever composed. People who say they’ve never listened to a note of opera in their lives have probably heard something from ‘Carmen.’”

The production will offer the company’s annual Student Matinee in which it will introduce 2,500+ school students grades 3-12 to this lively, colorful opera on Thursday, April 2nd at the Benedum Center.

Pittsburgh Opera’s Resident Artists will take lead roles in the Student Matinee, and will be accompanied by the Pittsburgh Opera Orchestra.

Performance are set for March 28 – April 5, 2020 at the Benedum Center.
