Alek Shrader, Mariola Cantarero & Sabina Puértolas Headline Opera de Oviedo’s 2018-19 Season

The Opera de Oviedo has announced its 2018-19 season.

The season will include five productions including some operatic classics and one Spanish opera.

The season opens with Jorge Muñiz’s “Fuenteovejuna” with Mariola Cantarero and Raquel Lojendio sharing the role of Laurencia. The opera also stars Antonio Lozano and José Luis Sola sharing the role of Frondoso and Felipe Bou and Ricardo Seguel as Esteban. Santiago Serrate conducts the production by Miguel del Arco.

Performance Dates: Sept. 9-5, 2018

The season follows with Rossini’s comedic opera “Il Turco in Italia” with Sabina Puértolas and Sara Blanch sharing the demanding role of Fiorilla. Simón Orfila and Ricardo Seguel alternate the role of Selim while Alessandro Corbelli and Pablo López sing Don Geronio. Iván López Reynoso conducts Emilio Sagi’s production.

Production Dates: Oct. 7-13, 2018

Ekaterina Metlova takes on the iconic title role in Puccini’s “Tosca” alongside Arturo Chacón-Cruz and Fabián Lara’s Cavaradossi. Ángel Ódena sings the villainous Scarpia while Pablo González conducts.

Production Dates: Nov. 15-24, 2018

Alek Shrader sings the role of Tito in Mozart’s “La Clemenza di Tito” alongside his wife Daniela Mack as Sesto and Carmela Remigio as Vitellia. Alicia Amo and Roxana Constantinescu round out the cast. Corrado Rovaris conducts the new production.

Production Dates: Dec. 16-22, 2018

Varduhi Abrahamyan and Roxana Constantinescu share the title role in Bizet’s “Carmen” alongside Alejandro Roy and Antonio Corianò’s Don Jose. Sergio Alapont conducts the production by Carlos Wagner.

Production Dates: Jan. 24-Feb. 2, 2019
