Albina Shagimuratova Out of Metropolitan Opera’s ‘Idomeneo’ Revival

By Francisco Salazar

Albina Shagimuratova will no longer sing in the revival of the Metropolitan Opera’s upcoming production of “Idomeneo.”

Per the Met’s website, the Russian soprano will be replaced by Federica Lombardi, who will sing the role of Elettra.

Shagimuratova recently performed at the Mariinsky Theatre in the theater’s Stars of the White Night Festival in a production of “Lucia di Lammermoor” under Putin supporter Valery Gergiev. She also gave a concert there in April.

The soprano also recently canceled concerts with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and at Zaradye Hall in Moscow.  Per Operabase, Shagimuratova has no upcoming engagements.

“Idomeneo” is set to open on Sept. 28 and will also star Ying Fang, Federica Lombardi, Kate Lindsey, Michael Spyres, Paolo Fanale, and Issachah Savage. Manfred Honeck conducts.
