Alamo City Opera Canceled Final 2018-19 Production

By Francisco Salazar

This past weekend Alamo City Opera canceled its production of “Soldier Songs,” which was slated for performances on June 1 and 2, 2019.

The staging was canceled after the death of company founder Mark Richter on April 28 with the board still figuring out the future of the company.

Founded in 2012 under the name Opera Piccola, the name was changed in 2016 as Alamo City Opera flourished into a prominent regional opera company. Throughout the years Alamo City Opera presented daring productions and its most recent staging of  “As One” obtained big-buzz for contracting a transgender singer.

Before his death, Richter announced three productions for the 2019-20 season: “Lucinda y las flores de la Nochebuena,” “Frida” and “The Threepenny Opera.” The season is still being determined as the future of the company is determined.
