Ainhoa Arteta, Plácido Domingo & Yolanda Auyanet Highlight Teatro De La Zarzuela’s 2019-20 Season
By Francisco SalazarThe Teatro de la Zarzuela has announced its 2019-20 season featuring eight full productions, gala concerts, recitals, and many important Spanish and international stars.
The season opens with Jesus Guridi’s “El Caserio” starring Raquel Lojendo, Angel Odena, Andeka Gorrotxateg, Marife Nogales, and Pablo Garcia Lopez. The second cast includes Carmen Solis, Joe Antonio Lopez, Jose Luis Sola, Ana Cristina Marco, and Jorge Rodriguez-Norton. Juanjo Mena conducts.
Performance Dates: Oct. 3-20, 2019
Ricardo Llorca’s “Tres Sombreros de Copa” is set to star Jorge Rodriguez-Norton, Rocio Perez, Emilio Sanzchez, Gerardo Bullon, Enrique Viana, Irene Palazon, and Anna Goma. Diego Martin-Etxebarria condcuts.

Manuel Lanza, Ernesto Morillo, Sara Blanch, Pablo Garcia Lopez and Maria Hinojosa star in Tomas Marco’s “Policias y Ladrones.” Jose Ramon Encinar conducts Carme Portaceli’s production.

Yolanda Auyanet and Maite Alberola share the title role in Federico Moreno Torroba’s “Luisa Fernanda” with Jorge De Leon, alejandro del Cerro, Plácido Domingo, Juan Jesus Rodriguez, Javier Franco, Rocio Ignacio, and Leonor Bonilla. The production will mark Domingo’s return to the theater and he will be joined by Ramon Tebar in the pit in a production by Davide Livermore. David Gomez-Ramirez also conducts.

The season ends with Sorozobal’s “La Tabernera del Puerto” with casts. The first cast will be headed by Sabina Puertolas, Damian del Castillo and Antonio Gandia. Maria Jose Moreno, Rodrigo Esteves, and Antoni Lliteres headline the second cast. Olivier Diaz conducts.

The season will open with a gala honoring Montserrat Caballé.
