Venera Gimadieva has withdrawn from performances of Verdi’s “La Traviata” at the Bayerische Staatsoper.

The company announced that Gimadieva was ill and therefore had to withdraw from performances scheduled on Sept. 25, 29, and Oct. 2, 2019. As a result, Ailyn Pérez will take over performances in the title role.

Pérez is currently performing a new production of “Pagaliacci” at the Dutch National Opera where she is scheduled to sing two more performances on Sept. 24 and 28, 2019. The soprano recently performed the role of Violetta on the Munich stage during the Munich Opera Festival alongside Atalla Ayan. Pérez is scheduled to return to the Metropolitan Opera this season for performances of “La Bohème” and “Simon Boccanegra.” She is also scheduled to make her role debut in the title role of “Rusalka” at the Santa Fe Opera.

Pérez joins a cast that includes Charles Castronovo and Simon Keenlyside with Jader Bignamini conducting.
