Aileen Schneider Wins Götz Friedrich Prize
By Francisco SalazarAileen Schneider has won the Götz Friedrich Prize for the 2024-5 season.
The director was recognized for her production of Aribert Reimann’s “Melusine” at Oper Frankfurt.
Schneider’s production portrays an idealistic, finding a solution for everything in society, that could be seen as a coming of age process, transferring the action to somewhere in the future when resources are scarce and there’s almost no water left.
The production premiered in June and was the first time that Oper Frankfurt was presenting the opera.
For over 20 years, the Götz Friedrich Prize has recognized and promoted outstanding talent in the field of music theatre directing. Past winners include Stefan Herheim, Nadja Loschky, and Sebastian Baumgarten. Lisenka Heijboer Castañón’s production “The Gospel According to the Other Mary” took home last year’s prize.
