The Metropolitan Opera’s 2023–24 Live in HD season will continue with a live transmission of Bizet’s “Carmen” on Jan. 27, 2024.

The transmission will feature English director Carrie Cracknell’s new production and stars mezzo-soprano Aigul Akhmetshina and tenor Piotr Beczała. They are joined by a cast that includes soprano Angel Blue and bass-baritone Kyle Ketelsen. Maestro Daniele Rustioni conducts the production.

Gary Halvorson will direct the Live in HD presentation for cinemas, with Grammy Award–winning mezzo-soprano Susan Graham as host, providing exclusive behind-the-scenes access and conducting interviews with the cast and creative team during intermission.

OperaWire’s review of the new production earlier this season said, “Daniel Rustioni got off to a solid start in the overture with a propulsive tempo and strong emphasis from the brass and percussion” and “Aigul Akhmetshina was solid throughout the Seguidille, her singing particularly articulate rhythmically, every note in its place.”
