The Metropolitan Opera has announced a cast change for “Le Nozze di Figaro.”

The company announced that Aida Garifullina will no longer sing the role of Susanna. As a result, Ying Fang will sing the role.

The news come a day after Garifullina performed “La Traviata” at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, a theater that the Metropolitan Opera broke relationships with after the beginning of the War in Ukraine.

Garifullina, who with over 1.4 million followers on Instagram is the most followed opera singer on social media, has yet to make a statement about the war and is still slated to perform at the Berlin State Opera and Bayerische Staatsoper later this season.

Garifullina is the latest Russian artist that the company broke ties with following its public rupture with soprano Anna Netrebko. The company still has soprano Hibla Gerzmava, who was also a vocal Putin supporter, on its roster for the 2022-23 season; she is slated to perform “Tosca.”

Fang joins a cast that includes Federica Lombardi, Sasha Cooke, Gerald Finley, and Christian Van Horn. James Gaffigan conducts the production by Richard Eyre.

“Le Nozze di Figaro” is set to be performed April 2 through 16, 2022.
