Aida Garifullina Celebrates Deutsche Grammophon’s 120th Anniversary

By Francisco Salazar

Aida Garifullina made history last night alongside Ludovic Tezier and Toby Spence performing at the Forbidden City to celebrate Deutsche Grammophon’s 120th anniversary.

Long Yu conducted the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra in Orff’s “Carmina Burana,” with the Wiener Singakademie and the Shanghai Spring Children’s Choir.

The concert was the first classical concert in the city in 20 years and also included Daniil Trifinov performing Rachmaninov’s Second Piano Concerto.

The performance was live streamed in YouTube’s 360-degree virtual reality, as well as China’s regular formats.

The concert marks Garifullina’s fifth high profile concert this year. She performed at the opening and closing ceremonies at the World Cup and the World Cup opera gala before appearing at the Bastille Day gala. She next makes her Metropolitan Opera debut in January.
