Aida Garifullina Cancels ‘Rigoletto’ in Vienna

Aida Garifullina has canceled her upcoming performances of Verdi’s “Rigoletto.”

The Wiener Staatsoper has announced that Garifullina will be replaced by Andrea Carroll in the role of Gilda.”

Carroll is an American born soprano who graduated from the Houston Grand Opera Studio and has won numerous awards and scholarships. She is a member of the Ensemble of the Wiener Staatsoper where she has performed a number of roles including Zerlina in “Don Giovanni,” Norina in “Don Pasquale,” Woglinde in “Das Rheingold,” “Götterdämmerung,” and Stimme des Waldvogels in “Siegfried.” She is scheduled to perform Adina in “L’Elisir d’Amore” later this season.

Garfiullina returns to the stage this summer for her Teatro Colón debut in Argentina and returns to the Weiner Staatsoper for “La Bohème.”

Carroll joins a cast that includes Christopher Maltman in the title role, Joseph Calleja, Nadia Krasteva, and Jongmin Park. “Rigoletto” opens on May 1 and runs through the 16.
