AGMA has released a statement regarding the Washington National Opera’s decision to leave the Kennedy Center.

The union said “AGMA is aware that the Washington National Opera Board has voted to sever its affiliation with the Kennedy Center. We will follow developments as more information becomes available, with our focus on supporting AGMA Artists at WNO. AGMA will consider the impact of this decision with care for their stability, working conditions, and artistic livelihoods, and stand with these artists and the company as they navigate this transition.”

The Washington National Opera announced on Jan. 9 that it was leaving the Kennedy Center following a vote from its board of directors. The news comes as many performers include Bel Fleck, Stephen Schwartz, Lin-Manuel Miranda, The Cookers, Doug Varone and Dancers, Kristy Lee, and Chuck Redd canceled performances due to the renaming of the Kennedy Center.
