Against the Grain Theatre Announces New Direction for Company

Against the Grain Theatre has announced that it will be entering a new phase.

After 13 years under Joel Ivany, the company will commence the search for a new Artistic Director and has three operas in development. In the meantime, General Director Robin Whiffen and Interim General Director Amy Lynn Strilchuk will lead the company’s numerous projects.

“Our board of directors and management team is dedicated to moving the organization through this pivotal moment, and our clear mandate and strategic plan will be our guiding principles in this process. We are aiming to open the call for applications within the next few months and will be looking for someone committed to carrying the AtG torch onward,” said Board Chair Marc Chalifoux in an official press statement.

The company will re-release digital operas such as “La Bohème,” “Messiah/Complex,” “BOUND,” “Sāvitri,” and “Identity.” The company will also continue the Opera Pubs events and will also feature such works as “Identity: A Song Cycle” by Dinuk Wijeratne and Shauntay Grant; “Sankofa: A Soldier’s Tale Retold” by Titilope Sonuga and Igor Stravinsky; andIndians on Vacation” by Ian Cusson and Royce Vavrek” in future seasons.
