Adriana Gonzalez & Xabier Anduaga Win Top Operalia Awards
By Francisco SalazarXabier Anduaga and Adriana Gonzalez have taken home first prize at the Operalia Competition.
The two singers also won the zarzuela prizes. Anduaga won the Plácido Domingo Ferrer Prize while Gonzalez won the Pepita Embil Prize.
Second prize went to baritone Gihoon Kim and mezzo-soprano Maria Kataeva while third prize went to soprano Christina Nilsson and countertenor Aryeh Nussbaum Cohen.
The Culturearte prize went to soprano Anna Shapovalova and the Birgit Nilsson award was given to both Felicia Moore and Christina Nilsson.
The Audience Award went to Gihoon Kim and Maria Kataeva, while Liv Redpath, Piotr Buszewski and Mario Bahg took home the Encouragement Award.
The Operalia Competition was held in Prague and is one of the most important events in bringing new singers to the fore. The past years have seen Emily D’Angelo, Adela Zaharia, Pretty Yende and Levy Sekgapane win the competition.
