By David Salazar

Bill Doggett will feature composer Adolphus Hailstork in his “Composer Conversations” on Sunday, August 16, 2020.

The event will focus on Hailstork’s career, his compositions, and how he brings Black history to life through music.

Audiences will also hear clips from many of the composer’s work and hear discussion of many of his more recent works, including the “Requiem Cantata for George Floyd.”

Hailstork is the noted composer of such operas as “Joshua’s Boots,” “Paul Laurence Dunbar: Common Ground,” and “Rise for Freedom: The John P. Parker Story.”

“Composer Conversations” kicked off on August 9, with a conversation featuring Pulitzer Prize winner Anthony Davis. Per Doggett, there will be a second conversation with Davis in late August titled “Revolution will be Televised;” this conversation will revisit “X: The Life and Times of Malcolm X” as well as other political works by Davis.\

Doggett will also interview such composers as Brian Raphael Nabors, and Richard Thompson.

Dogget is the founder of Bill Doggett Productions who has worked as a Performing Arts diversity inclusion strategic marketing and new business development consultant.

The event kicks off at 5 p.m. ET.
