The Wiener Staatsoper has announced multiple cast changes for its upcoming performances.

Per an official statement on the opera houses’ website, tenor Carlos Osuna will perform the role of Narraboth and Robert Bartneck will take on the role of the Third Jew in Richard Strauss’ “Salome” on Oct. 6, 2020. Osuna and Bartneck will join a cast that includes Vincent Wolfsteiner, Marina Prudenskaya, Tomasz Konieczny, and Vida Miknevičiūtė in the title role. Alexander Soddy conducts the production by Boleslaw Barlog.

The company also announced that bass-baritone Adam Plachetka will appear in the role of Doctor Malatesta in Donizetti and Ruffini’s opera “Don Pasquale,” on Oct. 13, 17, 21, and 24, 2020. Plachetka will replace baritone Boris Pinkhasovich. Plachetka is the second major cast change for the October 2020 presentations of “Don Pasquale,” after Nicola Alaimo took over the title role. Dmitry Korchak will perform the role of Ernesto, and Slávka Zámečniková will appear as Norina. Marco Armiliato will conduct the production by Irina Brook.

The latest series of changes are a continuation of aftershocks that were brought on by a COVID-19 outbreak at the Wiener Staatsoper and the subsequent struggle of the opera house to contain the contagion.
