Adam Diegel & Mary Evelyn Hangley Headline Verdi’s ‘Il Trovatore’ At Pensacola Opera

Pensacola Opera is set to present Verdi’s “Il Trovatore,” the final mainstage operatic performance of the 37th season.

Verdi’s masterpiece will be shown at the Saenger stage with a cast that includes Mary Evelyn Hangley as Leonora, Adam Diegel as Manrico, Dennis Jesse as Di Luna, and Renée Tatum as Azucena.

Verdi’s opera will be directed by John Hoomes with Lighting and Projections designs by Barry Steele.

In a statement Hoomes said,  “I was intrigued by a post-apocalyptic setting primarily because of the limitations that setting imposes on the characters. Communication has broken down, warring factions have been created, food, water and fuel are scarce, and there is a desperation to survive. Into this setting we drop a dual story of love and a story of revenge. The setting defines how the characters interact to better reach their desires, and the excitement that comes from the characters pushing through the limitation of their environment in a blind quest of their goals.”

The opera is set to be showcased on March 20 & 22, 2020.
