‘Aci, Galatea e Poliferno’ To Get Orizaba Premiere

Audiences in Mexico will get a chance to experience the local premiere of Handel’s serenata “Aci, Galatea e Poliferno” on August 9 and 11 at the Teatro Ignacio de la Llave in Orizaba, Veracruz.

The performance will be conducted by José Antonio Espinal, who will lead the Orquesta Filarmónica de las Altas Montañas. In the role of Acis, audiences will hear Magda Rey while Galatea will be interpreted by Mónica Covarrubias. Finally, Poliferno will be represented by Raúl Morales.

The work will be presented in a production designed by Svitlana Biedarieva and directed by Braulio Amadis. It is produced by Cesar Moreno Zayas.

The Handel works hails from 1708 when it had its premiere in Naples as part of the wedding festivities for the Duke of Alvito and the Princess of Acaja. It features a libretto by Nicola Giuvo.
