Academy of Vocal Arts Unveils 90th Season

The Academy of Vocal Arts (AVA) has announced the details of its 90th anniversary season.

Staring off the 2024-25 season is the New Artist Recital, featuring the 10 resident artists of the incoming class.

Performance Date: September 26, 2024

The Giargiari Bel Canto Competition comes next. Danielle Orlando accompanies.

Performance Date: October 5, 2024

Steven White returns to AVA to conduct Gounod’s “Faust.” Chas Rader-Shieber directs.

Performance Dates: November 16 – December 3, 2024

AVA’s resident artists will perform a selection of sacred music, with master vocal coach David Antony Lofton conducting the AVA Opera Orchestra in “Jubilate! A Concert of Sacred Music.”

Performance Dates: January 25 & 26, 2025

Mozart’s “Così fan tutte” is conducted by Robert Kahn, with music direction by Christofer Macatsoris and stage direction by Jose Maria Condemi. Cast A, which opens on Feb. 22 includes Joshua Berg, Joshua Klein, Na Wang, Veronica Richer, Alla Yarosh, and Beautiful Sheriff. Cast B, which opens on Feb. 25, stars Cole McIlquham, Jacob Hanes, Yue Wu, Daniela Machad, Ariana Maubach, and Alexa Frankian.

Performance Dates: February 22 – March 1, 2025

Up next is “BrAVA Philadelphia! 90th Anniversary Celebration and Gala.”

Performance Date: March 21, 2025

Mascagni’s “L’amico Fritz” is directed by Jeffrey Buchman. The first cast stars Angel Raii Gomez, Alexa Frankian, Katherine Dobbs, Cole McIlquham, Raúl Morales Velazco, Alex Mathews, and Beautiful Sheriff. The second cast consists of Joshua Berg, Manli Deng, Alla Yarosh, Cole McIlquham, Raúl Morales Velazco, Geoffrey Schmelzer, and Daniela Machado. Joseph Colaneri conducts.

Performance Dates: April 26 – May 6, 2025

Resident Artists perform their “Farewell Recital.”

Performance Dates: May 9, 2025
