Academy of Vocal Arts Announces Russian Romances Recital

The Academy of Vocal Arts has announced its annual Russian Romances Recital, scheduled for Dec. 12, 2020.

The event, which will be aired via the institution’s official YouTube channel starting at 7:30 p.m. EST, will feature a number of major Russian hits led by vocal coach Ghenady Meirson, who is the program’s music director and pianist.

Tenor Shawn Roth will perform “Beloved, let us fly” by Rachmaninoff as well as “Whether Day Dawns” by Tchaikovsky.

Meanwhile mezzo-soprano Alice Chung will interpret “When cornfields sway” and “In the Still of Night” by Rimsky-Korsakoff.

Baritone Benjamin Dickerson will sing “Yesterday we met” by Rachmaninoff and “Don Juan Serenade” by Tchaikovsky, while basses Griffen Tracy and Peter Barber will take on Shostakovich’s “Four Monologues to Poems by Pushkin.”

Soprano Ethel Trujillo will take on Glière’s “Rusalka” while Baritone Kevin Godínez will showcase “Swirling Waves” by Rubenstein. Closing out the program will be soprano Kara Mulder with Rimsky-Korsakov’s “A Dream in the Summer Night.”
