Academy of Vocal Arts’ 2019-20 Season To Feature Operas By Verdi, Donizetti, Mozart

The Academy of Vocal Arts has announced its 2019-20 season, which will celebrate the institution’s 85th anniversary.

Opera

The first opera of the year will be Mozart’s “Le Nozze di Figaro,” which will be conducted by Maestro Christofer Macatsoris and directed by David Gately. Resident Artists will take on lead roles.

Performance Dates: Nov. 9, 12, 16, 19, 21, 2019

Donizett’s “La Favorite” will be the second opera presented. Richard A. Raub will conduct the work, which will be presented at the Helen Corning warden Theater.

Performance Dates: Feb. 15, 18, 20, 22, 2020

The opera slate draws to a close with a production of Verdi’s “Un Ballo in Maschera.” Macatsoris conduct with Jeffrey Marc Buchman directing.

Performance Dates: April 25, 28, May 5, 9, 2020

Other Events

Jubilate! A Concert of Sacred Music will feature conductor David Anthony Lofton. The performances will take place at the Bryn Mawr, Church of the Redeemer and Center City, Church of the Holy Trinity.

Performance Dates: March 14, 15, 2020

AVA will also present the Giargiari Bel Canto Competition at the Perelman Theater, Kimmel Center.

Performance Date: Oct. 5, 2019

In addition, AVA will present a number of recitals including the New Artist Recital, Fall Recital, Russian Romances, Winter Recital, Spring Recital, and Farewell recital.
