ABAO Txiki to Present ‘El guardián de los cuentos’
By David SalazarABAO Txiki is set to present “El guardián de los cuentos” at the Teatro Arriaga in Bilbao on March 14, 15, and 16, 2026.
The opera, with music by Miquel Ortega and a libretto by Andrés Martorell, follows two young protagonists, Ariadna and Horacio, as they enter the “Book of All Stories” and encounter classic fairy tale characters including Snow White, Pinocchio, Hansel and Gretel, and Sleeping Beauty. The production runs 85 minutes and is recommended for audiences aged six and up.
Family performances take place on Saturday, March 14 at 6:00 p.m. and Sunday, March 15 at 12:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., with a school session on Monday, March 16 at 11:00 a.m.
The cast features María Lacunza, Javier Erro, Julen García, Andrea Jiménez, Leyre Medina, Leticia Vergara, Begoña García, María Gutiérrez, and Erika Imízcoz, alongside actors Elena Lacunza and Miguel Nuño. The Escuela Coral OCN performs the roles of the dwarves.
Miquel Ortega conducts the Orquesta Sinfonía Navarra and the Coro de Ópera de Cámara de Navarra. Carlos Crooke directs the production, which is presented by Ópera de Cámara de Navarra.
In conjunction with the performances, ABAO Bilbao Opera and Bizkaibus have renewed their collaboration to promote public transport use among young audiences in Bizkaia, distributing complimentary tickets through ABAO’s channels and partner municipalities. The initiative also includes the Gazteam ABAO community for audiences up to 25 years of age, offering invitations to events across the general season.
